ESXI DataStore Errors

So I'm having a problem while trying to create datastores, I get to the select partitioning options when trying to make a DataStore in the HTML5 configurator for ESXI 6.5 and I get this error:

Cause: <div class="wizard-content" ng-include="vuiWizard.pages[wizardManager.currentIdx].contentUrl"> Version: 1.8.0 Build: 4516221 ESXi: 6.5.0 Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:59.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/59.0

And When i tryed to create a new datastore in the vsphere client, I get this error at "current Disk layout"

Cannot change the host configuration

Error stack: Call "HostDatastoreSystem.QueryVmfsDatastoreCreateOptions" for object "ha-datastoresystem" on ESXi "192.168.1.18" failed.

Any Help Is appreciated

Thanks

Looks like it might be a bug in the host client. Update yours with the one here: ESXi Embedded Host Client

Now I'm Getting "Failed to create VMFS datastore Bongo - Cannot change the host configuration" in the web GUI and

Cannot change the host configuration

Error stack: Call "HostDatastoreSystem.QueryVmfsDatastoreCreateOptions" for object "ha-datastoresystem" on ESXi "192.168.1.18" failed.

in Vsphere at "current Disk layout"

And i updated it

What version of the ESXi host client does it say you're using?

Version:

No, the host client (Help -> About), not your version of ESXi.

You're also very far behind in patches for 6.5, so I'd also recommend punching up to the latest version available.

No, that's also not what I'm asking. That's the C# client (which you shouldn't be using). In your web browser, https://<FQDN>/ui, go to Help -> About.

So it did update the client, which is good. ESXi host build is at GA which is very far behind, so I'd still recommend updating that. That aside, are you trying to create a new datastore on an existing disk? Is it a dedicated disk? Did it have any data on it previously (not necessarily a VMFS datastore)?

Sometimes issues like this are caused by some random data on the disk.

What you may try, is to select the new/empty disk/LUN, and run "Clear Partition Table" from the "Actions" menu, and then create the datastore.

Some questions:

  • Is this a new installation?
  • Which hardware (system, controller, disks) do you use?
  • It's a DELL disk, but you've installed the VMware profile, i.e. not the Dell profile, which contains additional drivers for Dell hardware. Why didn't you use the Dell installation image?
