I wondered if anyone could tell me what the paritions in bold contain during a default ESXi install to disk contained and what their purpose was.

Partition 6 is the alternate ESXi image
Partition 7 is for core dumps
Partition 8 contains tools, drivers, vSphere Client installer

visorfs is a RAM disk
There are two fat partitions for a "current" and a "previous" ESXi installation. And there is a partition for the VMware tools.
