I am having a weird problem with my VMWare ESXi 4 server.
I have a VM set with 758GB disk space on thin provision. This VM Guest is CentOS 5.8 64 Bit.
When I select the VM Guest in the vSphere client, it shows 147.62 GB in used storage and not-shared storage.
However, when I go into the VM guest, and type "df -h" in the command line, it only shows 82.8GB used.
What could be causing this extra disk space that vSphere is detecting?
No one can help me?
The disk space is slowly increasing in VMWare yet the usage remains the same on the guest itself...
I'm not taking any snapshots either.
When you browse the datastore to that disk, what do you see inside the VM folder? Can you please post a listing?
I'm seeing this:
The used storage shown by the vSphere client is below..:
Yet on the VM guest, shows about 80 GB used:
Please see this article: http://vinfrastructure.it/en/2011/12/reclaim-free-space-in-thin-provisioned-vmdk-disk/
Unfortunately I only have one datastore and do not want to risk any downitme, so I don't think this is possible for me.
Is there another solution? Can I still overcommit if I do not thin provision in future VMs?
Hi TheVMEvolution
Welcome to the communites
It seem to have a mistagged partition there.
You should probably correct this using the fdisk command, have to run very care fuly as it live server
How do I go about doing this?
😕 this is still frustrating me.
If I ignore the used disk space shown used in vSphere, can i still use my actual free space?
This is a growing problem.
86GB used on the guest, yet vSphere shows 154 GB now.
Seriously I will paypal $50 to whoever can help me fix this...
