Hi,
We used to enable SSH and use PuTTY to connect to ESXi 5.5 Host.
However, a consultant suggests enabling ESXi Shell and access it via DCUI.
Just would like to seek your advice is there any difference between these 2 methods of access ?
Thanks
Accusing ESXi Shell is available using two different ways.
1) Local access to ESXi shell is available by enabling it and using directly from DCUI (Alt + F1), more secure since it's being accessed locally
2) Remove access to ESXi shell is available by enabling SSH Shell and using SSH Client like PUTTY etc to access it. since this is remote access, security is bit of a concern.
This is the reason, suggestion of using it locally from DCUI is given.

Actually there is no difference in options or commands that you will get in both the methods but access it locally through DCUI is more secure as compared to accessing it via SSH.
