Datastore Alarm not going away

Hi

I am getting a warning alarm on the Datastore View, Datastore usage on Disk. I checked the Definition of the alarm and the Trigger is Datastore Disk Usage % is above 75.

Im assuming this means that im using over 75 % of my storage.

Now this was actually the case, I was using the datastore for some test VM's and was using almost all the space. But yesterday I cleaned up the store, removed the VM's from the Disk, checked the Datastore and it deleted them. Im only using about 10% of the storage now. And Vcenter shows it as having 752Gigs of free space, its only a 900 Gig datastore.

I acknowledged the alarm, but it still gives me the warning. My only option is to acknowledge it, I cant reset it to green.

Am i misinterpreting the meaning of the alarm? Or am I just missing something?

Thanks

Mike

Hello.

Sometimes the alarms seem to get "stuck" and the easiest way to clear this up is to disable the alarm and then enable it again immediately.

Good Luck!

I have seen same issue on several customer sites, go to the datastore alarm settings and disable it, it will reset then alarm. This was the workaround provided by VMware support when we filed a case on this. I hope they fix this in next vCenter Server release.

have you gone to the summary tab of an ESX Host, find the datastore, right click an refresh, does that clear the alarm?

That did it, went to the alarm and disabled it, it went away, then I just enabled it again.

Thanks everyone for the response

Thanks for this post - I ran into this issue and Google found it.  Worked like a charm.

vCenter 4.1, by the way...
