Hello,
Vmware Vshpere Converter; question being, as I convert an image my server completely shuts off. No error. Nothing. Would really appreciate some help with this; I am migrating our company servers to the virtual platform, this conversion tool would be paramount.
I have tried hot converting Windows 2008 Standard from a physical machine and Ubuntu 10.4 from inside a Virtual Box environment; both lead to crash.
ESXi 5.1 Server:
MOBO: ASUS KCMA-D8
32 GB RAM
2 x AMD Opteron CPU 4334
2 x 500 GB WD-Velociraptor
2 x 1 TB WD Black

There is another shortcut way, you can take an image from the physical server by a backup software and restore that on a virtual machine.
Sometimes you face with some errors about VMware Converter and such as hard disk controller issue and etc. But the above solution was worked for me.
Just you have to convert your image file to an ISO file and mount that to your virtual machine then you can boot your virtual machine with another bootable ISO for example Hiren and restore your backup.
Davoud; thank you, but this defeats the purpose of using Vsphere Converter.
Anyone think Raid configuration may be the culprit?
You're right, vCenter converter is primary solution but some time we have to try old solution.
Maybe it's related to your RAID configuration.
