2 questions about VMDirectpath(PCI card, DMA)

well, I manage to configure Passthrough so far, but I met obstacles again. These are what I want to know how to solve.

1. Whenever we encounter bunch of troubles, we think probably those are hardware problems. We are actually using PCI card that doesn't support virtualization, though we could configure passthrough. I already read the document about VMDirectpath partner supported, and I found Supported HP servers, HBA's, ESX versions, CVEVA, EVA arrays, and guest operation systems. However, I coldln't find information about PCI card. Should we use special PCI card? If so, could you let me know what to use?

2. As I mentioned above, we configured Passthrough, and we made two Virtual Machines. When we simulated VMDirectpath, I/O control was OK, but DMA was not available. Remapping was enable, but they return ridiculous address. Why these things happened? What's wrong?

Any advice or helpful link will help me.

Thanks,

Kwangwon

Have you check on the compatibility guide for your card. If so then you can create a SR with the support. Alternatively can you provide us the error message? and did you host meet the requirement for VMdirectpath IO?

Configuring Passthrough is quite tough process so far. We are dealing with IPS(Intrusion Prevention Services) and IDS(Intrusion Detection Services). The reason I have been actually trying configuring Passthrough is capturing traffics among Virtual Machines for IPS. well, is there any other method to do it? If so, Necessity for VMDirectPath will be decreased. Please help me. :$

Thanks,

Kwangwon.
