Just restart the vmware mgmt service from VC that will kill all running tasks.

cancel the task in the web client not vsphere client. It's https://YOUR-VCENTERIP:9443/vsphere-client
on the right side there is tasks, click Tab "Running".
Now you can right mouse button - Cancel the task
