VDR 2.0 and vCenter/ESXi Version Compatibility

Hi,

I've been able to download VDR 2.0 on my Essentials Plus licence but having reviewed the Product Interoperability Matrix I note that VDR 2.0 is only "compatible" with:

  • VMware vCenter 5.0
  • VMware vCenter 4.1 U2
  • VMware vCenter 4.1 U1
  • VMware vCenter 4.0 U3

The matrix is here:

http://partnerweb.vmware.com/comp_guide2/sim/interop_matrix.php?

Does this strike anyone else as strange?

How can it be compatible with VMware vCenter 4.0 U3 but not with VMware vCenter 4.0 U4 for example?

How can it be compatible with VMware vCenter 4.0 U3 but not with VMware vCenter 4.1?

It turns out that I'm runnning VMware vCenter 4.1 which is "Build 260247" so the matrix suggests it's not compatible with 2.0 anyway though it doesn't say why exactly.

So does this mean I have to upgrade my version of VMware vCenter and all my hosts to at least Update 1 just to run VDR 2.0?

In fact it also turns out that VDR 1.2.1 doesn't support 4.1 either so I'm stuck with VDR 1.2.0 until I update vCenter and all of my hosts!
