We let an employee go and he took the root password for ESXI with him. Anyone have an ideas for getting back in? I am not able to access the client with a Windows password and I dont have a password for the web GUI.
without vcenter you only have the option of reinstalling esxi or try to boot a live cd described here: https://www.vmwareblog.org/forgot-esxi-root-password-no-problems-4-ways-reset/
is this a single esxi or connected to vcenter ? with vcenter you have a chance without reinstalling esxi
Single ESXI
Through vCenter you can create host profile and apply to particular ESXi host for reset the password. VMware Knowledge Base

Reinstalling the ESXi host is the only supported way to reset a password on ESXi.
