I have checked the links but no success, the bundle is downloadable when you download the ESXi Installable:

http://downloads.vmware.com/d/details/esxi50/dHRAYnQldGViZHBqaA==

But it says that I am not allowed to download it, well I can download ESXi 5 trial, vCenter and all the trials but NOT the ESXi 5 Installable even there is a trial option, I guess it is only for Partners, as you know there is an Autodeploy of ESXi that needs the Offline Bundle to work, and that is why I need it.

Thank you for your reply.

VMware will need to release the free download of the offline bundle or maybe using the ESXi.iso as the source files "not sure how".

You don't need offline bundle for Auto-deploy.

You can point Auto-depoy to the on-line depot directly.

If you really need offline bundle, you can use the Image Build to create an offline bundle.

Hope this steps may help you

- Add ESXi software Depot

PowerCLI C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Infrastructure\vSphere PowerCLI> Add-EsxSoftwareDepot http://Depot URL /index.xml

-  See details about Image Profiles available inside depot by using

PowerCLI C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Infrastructure\vSphere PowerCLI> Get-EsxImageProfile

-  To see different packages [vibs] inside depot

PowerCLI C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Infrastructure\vSphere PowerCLI> Get-EsxSoftwarePackage

Create the rules to by attaching the profile in to perticual host or no of hosts and boot the systems.

I will let you know the results once I try it. Once I add: Add-EsxSoftwareDepot http://Depot URL /index.xml

I need to put something in the Depot? I believe this is the folder where the esx.zip file should reside?

I don't get it...

the manual says

http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/index.jsp?topic=/com.vmware.vsphere.install.doc_50/GUID-C8DD4025-9...

there has to be a esxi 5 depot available somewhere...

isn't a depot a zip file? I don't have one... only an ISO...

will this work?

Add-EsxSoftwareDepot path:\VMware-Esxi-5.0.0-xxxxx-depot.iso ??????????????????????

Hi all,

Still in the dark as well

Is there a URL so we can use the imge builder to pull the offline bundle.

Also How do you create an offline bundle from an iso file ?

With pxe manager you only had to use the iso images, but when I tried it with the esxi 5.0 image it didnt find the xml file.

Please advise...POC are such a stress....

I have managed to download a .zip (260MB) from a third party. Anyhow the documentation specify that you can create a custom image profile using the Image builderPowerCLI by cloning a published profile, or from scratch in both cases you need the software depot (online or offline). So the question is can Image builder create a deport (all files necessary for the install) from the esx.iso CD? Can image builder create an image profile from an existing esxi server already installed, and then create an offline depot from the image? Still reading the new documentation.

This is what I get:

VMware ESXi 5.0 Installable

Sorry, at the moment you are         not authorized to download VMware ESXi 5.0 Installable.         You have the following options:

  • If you have a valid serial number of                                                                 VMware ESXi 5.0 Installable and you have not registered it, please register it here,           so you can get download access.
  • If you want to get more information about            VMware ESXi 5.0 Installable, please contact the VMware Sales department per            email or telephone 1-877-4-VMWARE.

I believe you are talking about vmware-fdm (Fault Domain Manager) package, it is part of the image profile needed when using HA (It is not the image). I do not know about the online depot, unless you are using HP/DELL images. they usually provide them to parteners. Hope this help.

You can get a copy of offline bundle of 5.0 GA at VMware store via the product download - you do need a login and password though.

The link provided by JITHRAJ works for me. However, you don't really need the offline bundle to deploy AutoDeploy images. You can connect to the online depot and either use that directly or create offline bundles from that.

Use the GA build of PowerCLI. Fire up the PowerCLI shell and use the following steps to either create your own offline bundle or use the online depot directly.

1. Type in : "Get-Help Add-ESXSoftwareDepot -Full" . At the end of the help section you should see two examples. Type in the first example and you will have access to the online depot. In my case, example 1 showed the following:

C:\PS>Add-EsxSoftwareDepot https://hostupdate.vmware.com/software/VUM/PRODUCTION/main/vmw-depot-index.xml

2. At this point, you should be able to continue on with the rest of the steps to deploy an imageprofile to the AutoDeploy server.

3. If you wish to create an offline bundle for later use, type in "Get-ESXImageProfile" and you should see the names of the imageprofiles available in the online depot. Pick one of the profiles that you wish to use and use the following command to create an offline bundle:

Export-EsxImageProfile -ImageProfile "ProfileName" -ExportToBundle -FilePath C:\my_bundle.zip

The HA depot is published by VC. Open up the PowerCLI shell and type "Add-ESXSoftwareDepot http://<your VC address>/vSphere-HA-depot". Once that finishes, execute "Get-ESXSoftwarePackage" to see the list of vibs published by that depot. You should see the "vmware-fdm" vib listed there. Look at my previous reply to see how to connect to the online depot and use the instructions at the following URL to create your own imageprofiles containing the fdm package.
