Upgrade to USB Flash boot from HDD boot.

Right now I'm running ESXi v3.5U4 on an IBM 3400 which is direclty on the HCL. I want to upgrade to v4.0, but I'm getting an incompatible disk error becuase of the way 3.5 lays out the disk. I have a single RAID array that is about 1.25TB which holds the boot system, vmfs and all the VM's.

If I install v4.0 on a USB flash drive, will it be able to read the vmfs on the existing RAID array, ignore the old boot stuff and startup my VM's?

I did it during the beta for 4.0 and it worked OK, but I would with a production server.

Do you have a system or PCI card working with VMDirectPath? Submit your specs to the Unofficial VMDirectPath HCL - http://www.vm-help.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=21.
