Upgrade from 3.5 to vSphere 4

We are performing what the documentation describes as

a migration upgrade on hosts running 3.5 to vSphere. However, I am a

bit confused as whether we need to upgrade our datastores as well.

Currently they are all VMFS3. The documentation is unclear as to when one to perform an upgrade using VMotion vs Upgrade VMotion.

Don't worry, you can upgrade your hosts and use VMotion and Storage VMotion.

Thanks for our reply. I guess my only outstanding question is how do we determine if we need to upgrade our datastores? If they can stay as they are, then we are good to go. We just use vMotion to upgrade.

Hello.

Anton's fact about the VMFS versions can be confirmed in kb 1005325.

Good Luck!
