Managing esx3 with Vsphere

We have an existing vmware cluster that is managed by vcentre 2.5, we need to add a new cluster which will be vsphere, we were wondering if we can manage the existing environment from the new VSPHERE managenent console, is it backwards compatible ? or do we need seperate management consoles for the different flavours ?

Hi!

You can manage VI3 with vCenter 4, you can also mix ESX3 and ESX4 in one infrastructure. We've upgraded vCenter from 2.5 to 4 with success. It allowed us to keep our statistics and configuration and so far we got no significant issues.

Everything was at place just like before the upgrade. One and only problem we faced was upgrade of VIC. There is a possibility to upgrade VIC after connecting to new vCenter but one or two workstations couldn't perform it. We had to uninstall VIC, reinstall NET and finally vSphere client installed smoothly Smiley Happy)
