Intel® PRO/1000 PT Dual Port Server Adapter (PCI Express) with ESX/ESXi 4?

Hi,

I am trying to work out if the following card worsk with VMWare ESXi 4.

The card is teh

Intel® PRO/1000 PT Dual Port Server Adapter (PCI Express)

Which uses the: Intel® 82571GB Gigabit Controller

However in the VMWare HCL it mentions the Intel 82571EB Gigabit Ethernet Controller

Are these two items compatibile, so will VMware ESXi work with this card?

I am hoping somebody out there has tried it can can give me some insight.

Thanks,

Ward.

Hi, I'm going to buy the same NIC card.

Do you confirm ESXi 4 will support it?

Thanks

Do you have a system or PCI card working with VMDirectPath? Submit your specs to the Unofficial VMDirectPath HCL - http://www.vm-help.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=21.

Hi,

I have recently formatted an ESX 3.5 server which has been running without a reboot for over 400 days without problem with 6 NICS:

4 NetXtreme BCM5704

2 Intel® PRO/1000 PT Dual Port Server Adapter

The 2 Intel NICs are used for NAS and everything was fine until I formatted and installed ESXi 4.0

Now I lose NIC connectivity every few minutes and the only way to restore connectivity is via a reboot!

Name PCI Driver Link Speed Description

vmnic0 01:01.00 tg3 Up 1000Mbps Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5704 Gigabit Ethernet

vmnic1 01:01.01 tg3 Up 1000Mbps Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5704 Gigabit Ethernet

vmnic2 06:01.00 tg3 Up 1000Mbps Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5704 Gigabit Ethernet

vmnic3 06:01.01 tg3 Up 1000Mbps Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5704 Gigabit Ethernet

vmnic4 15:00.00 e1000e Down 0Mbps Intel Corporation PRO/1000 PT Dual Port Server Adapter

vmnic5 15:00.01 e1000e Down 0Mbps Intel Corporation PRO/1000 PT Dual Port Server Adapter

In the HCL the adapter is supported but with the following note: 1. e1000e version 0.4.1.7

There is a patch available for ESX ( http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1014843 ) but I have found nothing for ESXi

I am downloading ESXi 4.0U1 (Build 208167) to see if the latest updates help.

I know this is a shot in the dark since this is an old post but we are experiencing close to the same thing with 4u1 in our test lab. Did you find a fix?

Thanks!!

Ryan
