Can't add Administrators users in SSO after upgrade to 5.5

I just upgraded to vSphere 5.5 from 5.1. The install completed successfully...no errors. I logged in to the web client with administrator@vsphere.local. I can see everything fine. I went to Administration>>Configuration under SSO and my domain is in there properly. I went to Users and Groups and when I try to add users to the Administrators group it looks like it completes, but the users never get added. The only two users I see are admin@system-domain and administrator@vsphere.local.

So now I can't log in with my regular domain users (domain admins). Anyone seen this before? Also, it takes a really long time for the Group Members under the Administrators group to populate.

Hi Friend,

This is a basic use-case and it should work just fine. Please refresh web client once you add your domain user under admin group. Please also check your domain is up & running with no any issue.  However, I have never tried this scenario with upgrade from 5.1 to 5.5. Was it upgrade or fresh install (just need more clarification)? Please also post which build numbers  5.1 and 5.5 did you use?

We actually got it figured out. The DC was waiting to be restarted due to an 0day patch update. Once we restarted the names added.  Thanks!

1. Login to the Web client “https://client-hostname:9443/vsphere-client” with administrator@vsphere.local using the password of what ever you configured SSO password as you can only configure SSO using the Web Client*

2. Navigate to vCenter Servers > Manage > Permissions, click on the + to add a user

3. Now add your Domain user or group that you would like to have access to vCenter along with the permissions required and click on OK.

4. Try and login with the user you just configured and you should now have access to the Web client or the Windows vSphere UI.
