HP Smart Array P410i - logical drive not visible in "add storage"

I'm running a small lab server with the following configuration:

DL 360 g7

Storage controller "Smart Array P410i" with 512MB BBWC

6x SAS disk 600GB

esxi hypervisor 4.1-U1 (at the moment configured from client directly)

Problem:

1. If I configure the logical drive as Raid 10 everything works fine. A datatore of about 1.7 TB can be used.

2. If I configure Raid 50 or Raid 0 or Raid 5 then I can see the drive in the config tool and during boot-up (1 logical drive configured ....), but in the add storage option there is no lun/disk to select.

I have refreshed everything etc, but only if I use the raid 10 option usable storage "appears".

Any hints/help welcome.

Make sure that your logical drive is under 2TB. VMFS limitation is specifically 2TB-512bytes.
