Booting from SAN - New storage device but no licenses for migration software

Hello,

I have a few ESX hosts and am replacing a FC SAN. Is there an easy way to migrate those boot LUNs to the new storage device? They are EMC storage devices but I don't have SAN Copy license or MirrorView. I also have some windows LUNs that need to be migrated as well. Any easy way to do them or will I need to rebuild my hosts and windows servers?

If both storage are on the same fabric, you can attach source and destination LUN to a machine, start with a live distro and make:

dd if=/dev/sdX of=/dev/sdY

where X is the letter of the source LUN and Y is the letter of the destination.

Did you go from an EMC to a new EMC?

In the past when I needed to do the migration within the same vendor I've been able to pressure the sales guy to get me a copy of sancopy, etc to enable me to migrate quickly and easily..

usually its not that hard to get the eval for a month..heh
