To give an example of what I really want to do with the SDK, consider the case of LabManager. When you deploy a new VM from a template (which is Windows XP), somehow the Altiris SID replacement is run to replace all the SIDs. And this is done only the first time after the VM is deployed. Now, can we do some thing similar in VC+ESX? What I'd like to do is run my custom script for the first time after the VM is deployed, which will check various things like antivirus is upto date, updates are up to date and settings etc. I know that this can be done via VMTools but the example I gave you on LabManager does not depend on VMTools. And it is actually better that my script execution is not dependent on VMTools so that I can ensure that all the images deployed can be easily prepped to our standards.
Any suggestions?
