vma 5 root account

i am trying to enable vma 5 root account.  I've followed same procedure as with vma 4.1 - root:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash is set in etc/passwd and a password has been set for root account.  When i logout and login to vma and try to put that password in i get access denied.  There apparently are still things that vi-admin cannot do(like change hostname and access to apps etc..)so that is why i'm needing root.  Is there a different procedure to enable root in vma 5

Hi,

how are you trying to log in? On the console or with ssh? If it's a ssh connection check if "PermitRootLogin" is set to yes in /etc/ssh/sshd_config. You will need to restart the ssh daemon if you change it.

Regards

You will probably need to edit sudoers in /etc --- you have to use a special editor for that after you "su up" from vi-admin.  Google will reveal how the settings work.
