Is VMware vSphere license price based on number of GB RAM of host device?

Definitely not RAM.

This should help: https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/8.0/vsphere-vcenter-esxi-management/GUID-710CD935-DBF4-4AF...

No this is usually tied to the number of physical processors and the core count 🙂

  • Yes, VMware try to switch to such a license scennario which than named "vTAX".  Within a Essentials Bundle the limit was 96GB per Host  example.  It was removed a few month later

Today

  • Service Provider are charged by VMware based on vMem configuration of a VM

But the licensing for the normal customers are based on CPU sockets or Core based subscriptions named "vSphere+". There is nothing about phys. memory within the Hosts.
