This post is a followup of the following VMware Blog article - http://blogs.vmware.com/management/2018/01/assess-performan…erations-manager.html
This post provides the step by step instructions on how to import the Spectre and Meltdown Custom Dashboards kit in vRealize Operations 6.6.x Advance/Enterprise Edition.
Here are the steps to import these dashboards:
Download the attached Dashboards_to_be_imported.zip and Views_to_be_imported.zip files (do not unzip these files)
Login to vRealize Operations with an account which has privelleges to import dashboards & views
Click on Dashboards Menu on the top of the page.
Click on the Views option on the left menu.
Click on the "gear shaped" icon and click on Import. Select the Overwrite radio button.
Browse and import the file name "Views_to_be_imported.zip".
Once completed, click on Ok.
Now click on the Dashboards Menu again on the top of the page.
Click on Action and click on Manage Dashboards.
Click on the "gear shaped" icon and click on Import Dashboards. Select the Overwrite radio button.
Browse and import the file name "Dashboards_to_be_imported.zip".
Once completed, click on Ok.
Dashboards to be imported
IMPORTANT NOTE - The dashboard kit includes a dashboard named "CPU Bug: VM Patching"
This dashboard processes all the Virtual Machines in your environment to come up with the list of Idle VMs and VMs with High CPU utilization. In large environment, this view might take up time to load since it has to process all the Virtual Machines.
You sir are a god among us mere mortals., thanks!
I am able to import the Views_to_be_imported.zip, but when I try to import Dashboards_to_be_imported.zip Anybody else having issues trying to import the Dashboards_to_be_imported.zip?
Never mind, I just had to unzip the Dashboards_to_be_imported.zip first and I was able to upload it.
From the screenshot it seems that you were trying to import the Dashboards from the Import View wizard.
Having the same issue as other poster. Internal Server error when trying to upload the View. Doesn't matter if I use the zip or xml. What info can I provide you to diagnose more?
Hi Sunny, first of all thank you very much for your efforts in putting together this set of dashboards (and guidelines).
This proves how versatile vROPs is.
I have noticed something weird though, which happen immediately after I installed the view/dashboards provided here: we have two clusters (in two sites) with 3x nodes each (v 6.6.1).
As soon as the new dashboards were enabled, CPU utilization on 2 out of 3 nodes spiked to 99% (and it has been like this consistently for a few hours).
From the Cluster Self Services Summary dashboard I see that CPU is used by analytics. Also I see high anomalies in the Persistence service on all nodes.
Could this be related to the new views and dashboards just installed (the timing matches perfectly)? Did they by any chance trigger some massive analytics background job?
I'd love to hear your thoughts.
I am not seeing the import Dashboard option under the Manage Dashboards gear icon. The only options I see are Enable Dashboard(s), Disable Dashboard(s), Reorder/Autoswitch Dashboards, Manager Summary Dashboards, Share Dashboards
I am running version 6.6.1.6163035. I also checked my permissions and have the administrator role with all permissions selected.
I will keep looking but any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
I have the same issue as JamieGator32.
Running v 6.6.0.5707161.
I just realized (no pun intended) that I don't have a full enterprise license. I think that may be the reason it is not available to me.
Yeah... As mentioned in the blog post, you need advance edition or above.
Check if you are running Standard Edition. As mentioned in the blogpost, for standard edition you can use the OOTB dashboards available in the product. For Advanced edition you get to import or customize dashboards.

I would not know if it is entirely related to the dashboards unless I look at the logs. However since you mentioned that you have 10K virtual machines, the View which filters down your Idle and Highly active virtual machines does analyse the utilization stats for last few days. This might be the reason for the spike.
I would recommend that if you are not using the "CPU Bug: VM Patching" dashboard then you can remove it to optimize the CPU Usage. The views in this dashboard are heavy as they are analysisng all the VMs in your environment.
Hope this helps.
Hi Sonny
First of all - great work with the dashboards and it makes it so easy to keep track of where you are with the upgrades.
I also noticed a spike in CPU usage on 2 of our 7 data nodes but it stopped after 30 min and haven't spiked since.
Keep up the good work with sharing things about vRops, which we are going to use more and more.
Rgds,
Kim.
Thank you Sunny, I appreciate your feedback.
CPU load on vROPs nodes has been high for ~8 hrs now it's back to normal.
We'll keep an eye on this and if we experience issues again we'll try to remove the VM Patching dashboard as you suggest.
Best,
Pietro
We have about 1500 VMs and this page never loads
We on Vrops
And we are running VVD 4.1 so we are sized to collect this size data any help would be awesome
Hi Sunny,
Hope you're doing well today, and I'd like to also say these are great dashboards, thanks!
One question - how do I get the vSphere widgets at the top of the "CPU Bug Performance Monitoring" dashboard to show the Historic and Trend/Forecast lines? (Currently I just see the Total CPU Usage line.)
Thanks!
nate
I am also able to import the views but when importing the dashboard, I get the following error - "JSONObject['x'] not found". We are using VROPS version 6.2.1.
Does this work with that version?
Do the views need to be updated with the latest ESXi build numbers to match the patch release on 1/22/18?
