sql 2005 express -> express 2008 r2 ?

Hello,

i`m running vcenter 4.1  on 2008 r2 server with sql express 2005 (on same VM)

since sql express 2008 r2 is supported now with 4.1u1, i want do do an in-place upgrade of express 2005 to 2008 r2. this will add additional 6GB for the maximum database size...

did anybody already do this and are there any caveats somebody would like to share here?

some colleague told that updating express 2005 to 2008 was straightforward, but what about sql client/odbc or vcenter connectivity ?

i do not fear trying this upgrade, but if there are known issues which could be avoided, then it  would be nice to know about before...

regards

roland

hello

Yes I have no issue during upgrade

I successfully upgraded Sql 2005 express instance to 2008 express R2 using 32 bit installer. Do not use 64 bit sql installer to upgrade 32 bit sql 2005 instance:)

After sql upgrade everything works fine vcenter server (4.1U1) service started without problem and connection to the console works as expected.

Thanks. My upgrade went smoothly too. You're absolutely right about using the 32-bit version of SQL-2008-R2-Express, not the 64-bit version!

George.
