When I try to add an esx 3.0.1 host to my VirtualCenter 2.5 I get the following erro message:
Unable to contact the specified host xxxxxx. This might be because the host is not available on the network, there´s a network configuration problem, or the management services on the host are not responding.
Before, the esx server was connected to an VirtualCenter 2.0, so i Disconnected and Removed it from vc2.0, and manually removed the old VirtualCenter Server agent on the esx server.
I have made a clean installation of VirtualCenter 2.5. and manually installed the VMware VirtualCenter Server agent om my esx 3.0.1 server.
From vc2 i can ping the esx server so no network problems should exists. I have also tried to connect by ip and FQDN, but no luck.
How do I solve this problem ?
Hi bnk..
Can you connect to the host directly using the VI client?
/Rubeck
Yes, if i use the vc2.0 client.
Maybe I should try to restart Management Service on the esx host. When I have disabled automatic startup/shutdows of virtual machines, then restarting should be safe, or???
Yes, disable startup/shutdown first... Then give it a shot.
Also check serivices afterwards, just to make sure that they stay up... "service --status-all | grep vmware"
/Rubeck
Now I have restarted mgmt-vmware, but the problem is still there.
The result of service --status-all | grep vmware is:
/etc/init.d/dsm_om_shrsvc: line 115: /etc/sysconfig/omsad.src: No such file or directory
ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere tcp dpt:vmware-authd state NEW
ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere tcp dpt:vmware-authd state NEW
vmware-hostd (pid 27837) is running...
vmware-vpxa is running
Looks ok..
Do you get the same result if you remove the VC client, and let VC do the installation job for you?
/Rubeck
When i restarted the mgmt-vmware I got the following output?
Stopping VMware ESX Server Management services:
VMware ESX Server Host Agent Services OK
VMware ESX Server Host Agent Watchdog OK
VMware ESX Server Host Agent OK
Starting VMware ESX Server Management services:
VMware ESX Server Host Agent (background) OK
Availability report startup (background) OK
Is that what I should expect?
Yes, this is the expected result.. Looks just fine.
/Rubeck
Yes. I first Disconnected the esx server from VirtualCenter 2.0 and then Removed it. Then I loged in too my esx server and removed the cv-agent manualy.
Then I tried too connect the esx server to my new clean VirtualCenter 2.5. So I got the erro message, and thought that installen the right version of the vc-agent would solve the problem, but no
I have installed 3 new esx 3.5 servers, and have no problems when adding them to vc 2.5.
I can also reconnect the esx 3.0 server to the VirtualCenter 2.0 without any problems ???
After you installed the ESX 3.5 and VC 2.5, are you able to add an earlier ESX Host Version to the VC 2.5 ?
Best Regards,
Hussain Al Sayed
Any error messages in VC and/or ESX host logs?
/Rubeck
No, that is exactly my problem
I do not know where the right logs are on VirtualCenter and my esx server?
I just tried to add my new esx 3.5 to my old VirtualCenter 2.0 with success ????
Strange

Hi again and good morning
How does your /etc/hosts file look like?
/Rubeck
Hi again
the hosts file says:
127.0.0.1 esx-1.int.hum.aau.dk
In my esx 3.5 the file hosts says:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
When I try to connect esx 3.5 to vc 2.5 there is no problem, so maybe I should write "localhost.localdomain localhost" i the hosts file on my esx 3.0 server?
