Powering up original vCenter after restoring from backup (DR event)

Hello everyone!

I had a very nasty outage a month ago that took out a bunch of storage. I my vCenter was taken down as a result of it at the time. I restored from an older backup at the time to get things work able so I could survey the damage. We've since repaired the SAN that caused the issue and things are back good. The issue is the backup is a bit old and some changes had been made since then and it doesn't seem to be all that stable.

My thoughts are: Could I just power down the backed up one and power on the original one? I know I'll have some orphans from VMs turned on while this vCenter was off. Is this reasonable? The other issue with my restored backup is I can't login to the appliance to do any more backups or patching.

Would there be any kind of major issues that I'd run into with this?

I would seriously consider creating a new one.

You can power on the old vCenter.
vpxd would sync and show the stale entries as orphaned vms which can be removed from Inventory.
