New VCSA 7.0.3 can nc to DC IP but not FQDN using 636

Setting up AD over LDAP on recently built 7.0.3 vcsa but not able to nc to domain controller by FQDN over port 636. Can reach the domain controller with nc using its ip address over port 636.  Any help appreciated.

Please don't mind me asking, but can you confirm that the vCenter Server resolves the DC's FQDN to the correct IP address?
