Moving VMs from old ESXi/storage to new ESXi/Storage

Hello Experts

Our Old ESXi servers (5.1) have data store connected to old storage with FC (Netapp) and iSCSI (HP 3PAR) storage. The new storage we ordered have only FC cables. (IBM model)

We need to move VMs and storage from old esxi/storage to new esxi/storage.

Do the new storage (IBM) need to have ethernet cables also connected to new ESXi so that ESXi can have access iSCSI based LUNs?

Does the old storage need to be connected to new storage to perform storage vMotion?

Please help.

As long as both the Source ESXi host and the Destination ESXi host has access to the new storage and both datastores (new and old) are accessible to both ESXi host, then it should be fine. To answer your question, the new ESXi host will definitely need to have ethernet cables and set up for iSCSI so that it's able to access the old iSCSI storage. May want to review KB Configuring and troubleshooting basic software iSCSI setup (1008083) when configuring iSCSI on the ESXi host. Again, the goal is to ensure both the Source and Destination ESXi host have access to both FC and iSCSI datastore. Once this is good, then storage vMotion should be good to go.

Thanks Parmarr. Much appreciated.

As the old storage is on NFS and iSCSI and new storage is on FC, can I move the old VMs which are on iSCSI and NFS LUNs to FC LUNS on new storage.

Please help and guide. Appreciated.
