Connection lost in VC Client

i got permanently this error on my VC Client (running on MS VISTA)

"connection to the server has been lost. The application will now exit."

This error happens not only i connecet to the VC Server. I got this error also i connectet direct to an VM server.

On the VC Server (it ist a VM) the VC deamon restarts three times and stops at 4th time. In the eventlog i got this error message:

Check database connectivity before restarting. Error: Error[VdbODBCError] (-1) "ODBC error: (01000) - [ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionRead (recv())." is returned when executing SQL statement "UPDATE VPX_ENTITY SET NAME = ? , TYPE_ID = ? , PARENT_ID = ? WHERE ID = ?".

I use:

VMWare Server 3.0.2 Build 54971 (last patch)

VI Server 2.0.2 Build 50618

VI Client 2.0.2 Build 50618

The database ist an MS SQL Server 2005 (Ver. 9.00.1399.06)

I create a new DB and create the odbc connection new.

Please help.

You might check out this KB article. Not exactly what you are seeing but it might help on the VC problem.

Connecting to the ESX server shouldn't be that problematic. Is everything on your local LAN? It might be possible you are getting timeout issues? And I assume DNS works correctly with the ESX server and your client machine? (test to and from both boxes).
