compatibility question about updating vmware tools for 3rd party or vmware product

Just discovered that the VMware Tools version 12.1.0 has been released to solve the CVE-2022-31676 issue.

However, I'm wandering about whether I can apply this version to 3rd party virtual appliance solutions immediately or not.

Usually, the 3rd party virtual solutions(e.g. DELL Avamar virtual server)for vSphere indeed support the utilization of vmtools, so I can say that there's no need to worry about the compatibility of version 12.1.0?

I have similar doubt.

If linux distribution, e.g. RHEL 7.x, does not provide open-vm-tools version 12.1.0 yet, then uninstalling current open-vm-tools and use version 10.3.25 would be the best solution to deal with this CVE leak??
