VMware Tools version visible in vSphere Web Client - open-vm-tools

Hi All,

We recently upgraded open-vm-tools on our RHEL servers from 9.4.10.38250 (build-2092844) to 10.1.15.65452 (build-6677369).

I notice that there is no change in the vmware tools version in vSphere Web Client

Still showing same version "Running, version:2147483647 (Guest Managed)".

details from example VM:

vmware-toolbox-cmd -v

10.1.15.65452 (build-6677369)

Screen from web client

pastedImage_2.png

is that normal? maybe 2147483647 is a default value if os is running guest managed vmtools?

Thanks

Matt

That's correct, this is normal when using open-vm-tools package. When using tar tools (i.e., the official VMware tools) it will tell you detailed information about the version.
