How to rename vSphere users provided by Active Directoy Identity Source

Dear Community,

We have many users provided by an active directory server in our vSphere 6.7 setup. These users will be renamed in the active directory and we are looking for a way to preserve permissions of these users in vSphere.

Is there a way to rename or migrate these users; either using a CLI, or SQL, or API - or by any other means?

Any help is much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Michael

Dear all,

After speaking to customer support, we've learned the only supported way to changes names in the active directory is

  • remove active directory as an identity source
  • change the names in the active directory
  • add the active directory as an identity source
  • manually add all users to their previous roles in the Web GUI
