vmware workstation 10 on Debian Jessie kills X server

I installed 10 last week and all was well, today on startup vmware 10 starts fine, but when I boot my

windows 7 VM, X crashes and I end up back at the login screen.

which reminds me, on my home machine since installing workstation 10 my VM always opens in

full screen mode instead of windowed. How would I change the default?

I found a work around for the time being. I turned off 3D acceleration for the VM and things run.
