vmware-toolbox-cmd on Solaris

Wondering if anyone has success running the following on a Solaris 10 x86 VM...

vmware-toolbox-cmd   device  list

What should happen is it will list 4 items ( ethernet, sound, ide, etc )  and their status.  This works for me in Workstation 7.

However trying this in versions 9.0.x and 10.3,  this command returns nothing, with an exit code of 0 ( no error ).

Other commands options like  vmware-toolbox-cmd  disk list  works fine.

No solution but found something interesting...

If I build a Solaris VM with VMware 10.3, but install vmware-tools from VMware version 7,  it doesn't work ( which is understandable ).

But if I build a Solaris VM with VMware 7, and install vmware-tools from VMware version 10, it works.   So it sounds like some binding broke in later versions of VMware  workstation.

I'm getting the impression that Solaris is not getting any love given the installer is still broken since version 9.
