vSphere as a Workstation VM

Hello all,

I am new to VMware so please be gently with me. I have a PC which is running MS Windows 7 and VMWare workstation 7 with 8GB of memory, 500GB disk and AMD processor which is configured for AMD-V. I have successfully installed ESX 4.0 build 140815 without any problems. I have another PC running Windows XP with the vsphere client installed and again no issues.

The problem that I am having is when I create a VM and try and boot it, I only get a blank screen and no boot menu. I have edited the configuration file before I install Vsphere with monitor_control.restrict="TRUE" but no joy. I am sure that I'm not the only one who has encountered this problem. Can anyone help me?

Thanks for your time.

the parameter you wanted is

monitor_control.restrict_backdoor="TRUE"
