"Error Updating VmWare Tools for Linux" - from auto-downloader in VmWare WS 12

My VMWare Workstation Pro 12 running on a Windows 8.1 host has started to prompt me to download an update for VMWare tools for Linux.

The update dialog comes up, and the update appears to download nicely. But then it stops with an error/problem:

It is not clear what goes on, or what this SW component actually is.

Anyone else seen this?

Hi,

The prompt means that it tries to download the latest vmware tools used in VM

The error may be caused by poor networking connection issues...

Hi,

I'm seeing the same issue with Workstation 12.1.1 on a Windows 7 host. And it could be related to problems with the download, as the download repeatedly progresses until about (only!) 30% and then the install starts (regardless). Does anybody have advise how to fix or work around this?
