when i enable sharing on port 443 it says "vmware workstation failed to connect to the workstation server". but if i use a different port like 25655 its all fine but i cant connect to the shared vm's on a different pc(i also cant fine anything using port 443 that would be blocking it). is it because im not using the default port, and should the ip be XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:25655. also just to double check the username/password is the same username /password for the host machine that i log into when the pc is turned on

443 is for HTTPS and therefore shouldn't be used for whatever you are doing.

Perhaps the host is blocking incoming connections on port 25655 - have you added a firewall exception for that port?

i have opened that port and the 443 but i also did a test where i ran a different type of server off port 25655 and tried to enable sharing and it gave me a port error message so i don't think thats the problem. my antivirus is Bitdefender and it says it's allowing it

From the manual:

The HTTPS port that VMware Workstation Server uses on the host system. The default HTTPS port is 443.

On Windows hosts, you cannot change the HTTPS port unless remote access and virtual machine sharing are disabled.

On Linux hosts, you cannot change the port number in the Preferences dialog box. You can change the port number only during installation, when running the Workstation Pro installation wizard.

Note

If the port number uses a non-default value, remote users must specify the port number when they connect to the host system, for example, host:port.

I was getting confused with VNC remote access, which can use any port. So 443 is correct.

Now why it's not working is another question. Your screenshot doesn't show any shared VMs, so what are you actually doing to trigger that message?

the reason you didn't see any is because shard vm's where disable so i can change the port to 443 and back to 25655

No problem, but I don't know what else to suggest. I believe that 443 is the required port for Shared VMs under windows but I don't know why its not working.

ok i now have a new error after finding somethings out, so when i know try to connect to the server (shared vm's) it says "failed to connect to (my ip). security error connecting to server." so is it saying that because i portforwarding 25655 or is it because of my AV bitdefender
