Windows NTFS Write Control

I create a disk under the Windows OS that grows in size as it data is written.   I also delete files and clear them from the recycle bin.   Unfortunately NTFS in general does not write to the cleared space but basicly starts where it left off on the disk causing the disk space to grow in size instead of writing to free space that has already been allocated.   How can I tell NTFS to start from the 'beginning' of the disk to look for free space instead of where it left off?

You cant - thats why Workstation used to have a "shrink" function - see https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2019649

Dont know if this is still available in WS 16 ?

Another 'deprecated' function.   VM guest sharing and Windows 7 soon to join the list.

Still, on an ESXi setup I can see this as an issue.    I am still looking for some NTFS registry

setting that will control where it starts to look for free space on a disk ...
