VMware Workstation 7 freezes on Windows XP SP3

Hi,

When I start VMware Workstation 7 on my pc, it freezes even if I don't run any machine.

I can't close it, nor ending the task through the Task Manager (as it also hangs).

I need to force shut down via the Power Button.

My pc specs are:

Windows XP SP 3

Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 2.66GHZ

2 GB of RAM

Physical Address Extension (it freezes with and without PAE)

I should mention that it did work in the past. It only happened in the last week.

Any idea?

Dan

Dan,

did you install anything new or updates (Windows update, virus scan patterns, firewall rules,...)

As a first step, try disable virus scan and firewall. If this helps check their logs.

You're right. It was the ZoneAlarm Pro firewall.

When I close it, VMware works as usual.

Thank you very much.

Do you have an idea, how can I solve this conflict, so I can use VMware and the firewall simultaneously?

Dan,

I don't know ZoneAlarm, however with most firewall products, you should be able to configure rules/exceptions.
