VMware Workstation 12.5.5 cannot detect native resolution of host display

Host: SLES 12 SP 2

Guest: SLES 11 SP 1

VMware Wkstn Ver: 12.5.5 build-5234757

vmtoolsd Ver: 10.1.6.4793 (build 4214329)

Host display has resolution 1280x1024. Xrandr shows the selected resolution to be 1152 x864, and the largest available resolution is 1176x885.

Is there any resolution to this issue?

I had a 64-bit Ubuntu 16.04 VM using EFI on a Mac that lost many screen resolution choices after an update from VMware Fusion 8.5.3 to Fusion 8.5.5. The screen resolutions that were available on the Ubuntu VM had 4:3 aspect ratios (1152 x 864 is 4:3). All the 16:10 and 16:9 aspect ratio resolutions disappeared from the list of available choices.

What I ended up doing was restore the VM from a Time Machine backup and then re-installed the VMware Tools. Sorry this may not really help you (especially if you don't have a backup of your VM) but does let you know it didn't just happen to you and your specific host and guest VM OSs.

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, my VM was created new in this context and therefore is the original copy. I have tried reinstalling vmware tools to no avail.
