VMWorkstation and ASP.net

I am using my VMworkstation 7.0 as a developer machine. But i'm unable to run asp.net on it when the source code is on the host machine.

My source code sits on the host machine and is accessed through shared folders mapped as a network drive into the VM Workstation.

When asp.net starts to run it hasn't got enough rights to read asp.net pages on the host from the VM workstation.

Yet i have given the asp.net worker process plenty of rights on both machines.

On the VM the Aspnet worker process is in the administrators group.

On the host the folder with all the source code is shared with full accees to the VM workstation.

However from inside the VM workstatoin when i right click on the shared folders the shared tab is missing. so I can't verify the security access from in there.

However, when i select a network drive from inside the VM i can see and set the share folder option.

Has any on succeeded in doing this before ?

Why don't my shared folders from my host act the same way as my network folders do inside my VM ? So that i can confirm that aspnet worker process can run the files sitting on the host.

Ok..the issue is caused by IIS not being able to view Mapped drives. It requires UNC paths. My drives are mapped using the normal Mapped folder option in VMworkstation 7. So if some one could tell me how to set a unc path to a folder on the host machine then that would be great.

you use vmware-shared folders ? - better use regular fileshares - they are more reliable and usually behaves as expected.

With vmware-shared folders you must be prepared for surprises
