VMW 6.02 error: unable to lock user preference file ...

Hi there Smiley Happy

I´ve got a problem with my VMware workstation:

I can´t seem to save user preferences: If i edit them the following errror-message occurs after a while:

"Unable to lock user Prefernce file C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\[user]\Anwendungsdaten\VMware\preferences.ini for reading. Unable to read user preferences."

and the changed preferences are NOT remembered (e.g. strech guest display w/o changing guest resolution in fullscreen) (a settig that doesn´t even work if i set it on each program-start).

After a while the VM-ware preferences aren´t even accessible anymore 😕

Host is WinXP, guest is Win2k...

Anyone any ideas how to solve this?

you should delete : C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen[user]\Anwendungsdaten\VMware\preferences.ini.lck

that fixed the same problem on my machine

Hey there I also had the same problem. Thank you Nellie for your tip, that fixed it for me too.

I think the reason this happened is because my PC froze (not because of vmware) while i was running three virtual machienes. And because VMware didn't have a chance to shut down properly, it must have left these lock files behind.
