I Have installed Windows Server 2012 r2 in VMWare 9 which I am using as a test lab. I would like to assign it a static IP address but when I assign it an IP address that is not part of the reserved range within my DHCP router I lose my internet connection. The computer that I am using has a DHCP assigned IP address. this is a home network connected by wifI.
Thank you for your reply. I am new to VMs and have just installed the OS and the adapter settings have taken care of themselves, so the default setting on set up.
In the VMware workstation go to the VM and hit "edit settings". Choose the network adapter and check the mode it is in. As said, you need to choose Bridged, so it can be part of your nomal LAN.
