So im new to vm ive downloaded it and installed windows xp sp3 on it.Im hosting on a windows 7 x64 and it really lags.
I have no idea why my pc specs should be allright
Inter dual code 2.6ghz
Nvidea 8600gts
4gb ram
I allocated 1 cpu and 512md ram do my windows partition and it lags badly ive tried giving it 2 cpus and getting it more ram put it lags like hell and cant run a game.
When i look at my cpu usage in task manager i see it going from 0% to 27% to 100% and it keeps on changing/
How could i fix all this i want to run vmware badly
Here I use Workstation 7.1 on an ancient Pentium 4 with 2 Gb RAM - and it is ok.
But I had to tweak the VMware settings to get best results ...
I think if folks say they are satisfied with overall performance of their system we should just trust them and help them with tweaking the VMware setup

Please attach the vmware.log file from the directory containing your Guest.
Also you didn't mention what else is running on your host machine. Turn off any other resource hungry services and programs.
Double check you selected the correct "Windows XP" (Home/Professional/...) as the OS for the VM (verify via "Edit Settings")
Did you install VMware tools on the VM? If not, it's now the time to do it!
If yes, check the physical RAM you allow VMware Workstation to use.
Select menu item "Edit" --> "Preferences" --> Tab "Memory"
With 4GB of RAM, I would set the reservation of 2 GB.
For your XP-VM use 1 vCPU and allow 1GB RAM.
Make sure XP uses the correct single processor HAL. This may have changed with adding a second vCPU (see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309283/en-us)

no hungering programs are running on host.
I also have have my windows xp to winxp proffesional which is my guest os everthing there should be right

ill get you that in a sec hope that helps
here it is i hope thats what your looking for
changed it to the right one

Hi
thats the log file for the GUI - please post the vmware.log from the directory of the VM
VMX-parameters- Workstation FAQ -[ MOA-liveCD|http://sanbarrow.com/moa241.html] - VM-Sickbay
is this it http://pastebin.com/Z7qeqR2d
?
yes - thats the right one
there is nothing critical wrong in your setup of this VM
but I would suggest to try the following
add the line
mainmem.useNamedFile = "false"
to the vmx-file.
replace the line
ide1:0.deviceType = "cdrom-raw"
with
ide1:0.deviceType = "atapi-cdrom"
also configure the memory preferences ...
open menu > edit > preferences > memory
and check the box "Fit all memory ..."
You use a snapshot ... thats not good for performance.
Do you really need it ?

ok but how do i remove snapshot
open snapshotmanager - high light the snapshot and click delete.
If you never used this before - read the help first

vmware-wmx.exe - driver not ready
the device is not ready for use; its foor may be open please check drive A: and make sure theat a disk is inserted and the drive door is closed
this host is not capable of hardware virtualization
usingsoftware virtualization with software MMU
and ? - why do you post that ?
the drive not ready message is caused because you have a floppy-drive in the VM while your host semms to have no such device.
Simply remove the floppy from the VM

why i post that?
because im new to vm and i though this could be helpfull rather try then do nothing
Make sure your AV software is not allowed to scan the directory used for the VM's. Set that entire directory (and subfolders) as an exclusion from all scans.
Also, I wouldn't used XP SP3, since you're having performance issues. Go back to XP SP2 and see how that performs. I would also give it 1GB of RAM, but keep the vCPU to 1. While XP can run on 512MB of memory (in both physical and virtual systems) it performs better with 1GB.
I would also remove the floppy drive from the VM configuration, as already mentioned. How large is the virtual hard drive for the XP system?
VMware VCP4

you can look up the size of the virtual disks in the log - see the line
Apr 10 13:18:17.086: vmx| DISKLIB-LINK : Opened 'C:\Users\Jessy\Documents\Virtual Machines\Windows XP Professional\Windows XP Professional.vmdk' (0xe): monolithicSparse, 16777216 sectors / 8 GB.

my hard drive for xp is 24 gigs
thats alot i think you solved most of my problem
this host is not capable of hardware virtualization
usingsoftware virtualization with software MMU
You may take a look into the host's BIOS and find out if it has the option to enable "VT" (aka Intel Virtualization Technology)
If so enable it.
André
my hard drive for xp is 24 gigs
are you sure ? - the vmware.log you posted says the virtual disk is 8 Gb only.
Please post a filelisting of the VM directory which includes size.
Maybe you have several very large snapshots - which would explain why the VM is slow
