Problems with Serial port on VMware workstation

Goog morning all,

I'm using VMware workstation on a Fedora 1 x64 system and trying to make the serial port feature to work without success. I've gone through the documentation and followed the steps detailed at page 320 so what I did was :

- add a serial port to the virtual machine

- configured it as a Unix domain socket which in my case is /tmp/com_1

After this I've ran the command socat -d -d /tmp/com_1 PTY which return "PTY is /dev/pts/1" at this point I've configured minicom to use /dev/pts/1 as the COM port but once I saved the configuration and launched the terminal I just see a blank screen with no communication going on, I've tried to wait a while but nothing showed up.

The virtual machine is a BSD based router for which I need console access via the COM port.

As I've said I've going through the documentation and a few posts on this board but could not find a solution to the problem I'm facing, is there anyone who experienced something similar or can give me any advice?

Thanks in advance, Daniele.
