I recall testing the record AVI feature in the WS8 beta and found some inconsistency with respect to file sizes vs WS7. I can't remember those exact details; they are probably buried in the beta forum somewhere if it is still accessible, but that's not what I am posting about. I just had a reason to create my first AVI in WS8 and did so using the medium quality setting. When done, the AVI worked reasonably well (good enough for purpose) but the file size for just a minute or so of capture was 136MB! :smileycry:
Anyway, I figured I'd try to compress the AVI and found that with 7-Zip using the Ultra compression setting I was able to compress it down to just 2.9MB or about 2% of the original size! I figured I'd share this with anyone else who may be needing to transfer these files around, since they seem to compress down extremely well. I won't go on to speculate about why or how... I'm just happy that with the compression it is now practical for me to leverage this AVI capture feature.
