Convert IMG disk image to VMware VMDK file?

Hi,

I have VMware Workstation 6.0.3 on Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 x64 and I have an image that I am trying to convert to work with VMware. The image is in IMG format and the total size of the image is 16GB but only about 8GB is used. So I tried to use the qemu-img method to convert it using this command:

qemu-img convert diskimage.img -O vmdk diskimage.vmdk

The resulting file is 589MB (it should be 8GB) but I try adding it in VMware anyway but it doesn't boot properly, vm stack reset etc. Is there any easy way to convert this properly?
