Ping loss

I have installed XP sp2 in VMPlayer on XP sp2.

All good, but ping (from any other computer) is not stable (50% loss or more)

Ping VM machine from Host machine is stable (0% loss)

Ping host machine from any other machine - stable (0% loss)

Help pliz Smiley Happy

Hi, I presume you're using bridged networking in VMplayer. Can you post the output from ipconfig/all in the host and guest machines and also from the other machine that you are trying to ping from.

Hi,

I encounter the same problem.

My host is linux redhat es4 and install VMware server in it with bridge mode only configuration.

My guest OS is windows 2003 server service pack 2 (bridge mode).

Ping between host and guest is fine. (0% loss)

When I connect the shared network adapter to a router (gigabit ethernet), the link speed displays 10M in guest VM.

Ping from host or guest to the router gets high ping loss (>80% loss).

I cannot even browse the router via IE from guest.

Appreciate if any suggestion or solution.

Thanks!!

Hi, I think (someone will correct me if I'm wrong Smiley Wink) that you need to use the e1000 network adapter in the guest to get the 1G ethernet speeds - for this you vmware tools installed in the guest.

As for the other bits if you post the outputs from ifconfig and ipconfig /all then it may give a lead to someone as to whats happening.

Pete.
