Newbie: MacBook running Slow

I'm not sure if there's a script running that's killing my resources. When I go to dsk utility, I see a number of *.iso files below the hard drive. (attached)? Is this something I should worry about? I also get cron messages in Terminal and when I restart the computer, there are recovered files in the trash. I deleted some PDF files and my computer is responding better but I don't know if this is related to a script or what not. Any ideas on how to trouble shoot all this?TIA

Select all these .iso images by shift and click, then click "eject" on the toolbar.
