vCops Memory Overcommit

Hi everyone,

I'm tuning a vCenter operations manager policy for my enviroment and I was wondering, is there a way to find out exactly what percentage of memory overcommit should be used?

Thanks for your time.

Subjective question.

Depends on your SLAs for the workloads you're running. If you can accept memory contention (ballooning, swapping, etc), you can overcommit more than a workload that notices very quickly if contention is present.

For prod, usually you'll have a little overcommit.. sometimes none. With Test/Dev, you've usually got a lot since the budget is lower and performance is less of a concern.

So basically your level of overcommit is going to be set by 'how much you can get away with' before SLAs are breached or people notice.
