A 6.x key won't work. You need a 7.x key.

im having the same issue. vRops 7 with with version 7 license key still says its invalid...
If it's telling you the license key is invalid then the key is actually invalid (or expired). There's no magic there.

It would tell you that.
Got it working now.. It was a 7 key then went to 2017 then finally went to 2018 which it accepted.
